Rough First Night - September 20, 2008

Our first night home with Clark was a bit rough. After doing well all afternoon and evening, we tried to get set up to go to bed. Unfortunately, Clark decided he didn't want to sleep unless we were holding him, and also wanted to feed 4 or 5 times and had 3 or 4 dirty diapers within about an hour and a half window. It seemed like every time we put him down he'd start flailing around and screaming about something, and it was different every time!

It really wore on Katie and eventually I just took Clark downstairs and laid down on the couch so he could sleep on my chest for a while. This allowed Katie to get a few hours of sleep, and I napped a little too. We switched off around 4:30am so that she could feed him a little, and that allowed me to get some better sleep up in the bed too.

Today has been really good though. We've managed something of a rhythm, feeding Clark for a while then putting him down to sleep for a couple hours, then feeding him again when he gets hungry. The other thing that's good is that we've been able to put him down in both his Pack n' Play and a bouncy seat for some sleep, rather than having to hold him on our chests in order to get some rest. So hopefully that will carry over to the night so that we can at least sleep in our bed with him in the crib tonight.

Wish us luck!
