Overdue Update - September 5, 2008

Again we've been lax about keeping the blog updated, and for that I apologize. It's been a couple weeks since our last post, so I've got quite a bit to cover.

Ryan and Jess came to visit the weekend of August 23, and brought their dog Tito along too. We had a good time, playing cards, going out to dinner, hanging out and catching up. The dogs all had a great time too. Ryan is supposed to be sending us a picture that we had taken at the restaurant, so when that gets here I'll edit this post to include it.

That following Monday evening we had our final childbirth education class, "Newborn Basics", which covered some things that were partly common sense, but there was enough stuff in there that we weren't aware of that it was worth going. We met with our Bible study group that Tuesday and planned out our next study topic, which is a book that all the small groups in our church are encouraged to do at the same time. I'm not sure how much we'll be able to attend over the next couple months, so we'll see how that goes.

The rest of that week was mostly uneventful, except that Katie had what seemed like a lot of Braxton-Hicks (pre-labor) contractions, which made me a little concerned about driving back to Ohio for the weekend. At her appointment last Friday the doctor said she was probably OK to travel as long as we stopped a couple times on the drive, which we did, and it all turned out OK, if uncomfortable for Katie.

The weekend itself was nice. After a visit with Mom & Kevin and a little get-together at Nana's on Saturday, Katie and I went out to The Grill in Newark and met up with Sam, Adam, Meghann, Brad and Dittoe for a night out. I think it may have been Sam & Adam's first night out without their daughter McKenzie, so we all celebrated and had a good time (and many pitchers of beer and glasses of wine). On Sunday we went to Katie's family reunion and then back to Vic & Barb's to hang out with Katie's aunts, uncles and cousins that came in for the event, most of which we see very infrequently, so that was a nice opportunity to catch up and talk with them.

We headed back to Indianapolis that Sunday night rather than waiting until Monday, and I think it was the right decision. Even though it was close to midnight by the time we got home and the drive was hard on Katie's back, she slept better in our bed than she had the previous couple nights away, and we were able to totally relax and recharge a bit on the holiday Monday.

This week has been busy... we had a mini-shower with our Bible study group on Tuesday evening, then on Wednesday I had my fantasy football draft, which took a whopping 4 hours and 20 minutes this year (ridiculous, I know). Katie went out with Sara on Wednesday afternoon to pick up some last miscellaneous baby-related items. Thursday was more relaxed; we just hung around here, watching the NFL season opener and the McCain acceptance speech. Today I went to work in the morning, then Katie came and joined me and my work group at Abuelo's for a lunch/shower, which was really nice of them to do. After that she went and visited with her old colleagues at GlasCraft before we headed over to the doctor's appointment. Everything still looks good and normal - it was a very quick and easy visit with the doctor.

Now we're just killing time until this evening when Sam & Adam arrive to spend the weekend with us. Tentative plans for Saturday and Sunday include plenty of football, beer and snacks. Can't beat it.

Chewie is all back to normal after his tooth extraction a couple weeks ago, but during he spent some time being tired and lazy on the couch, so we tucked him in with a blanket, gave him one of Clark's stuffed animals to cuddle with and snapped the pictures below...
