Clark's Dedication - June 15, 2009

Clark did great at his dedication on Sunday and didn't cry up in front of the whole church, whew! He had a big day and he didn't have great naps, but he was very pleasant anyway and was asleep before his head hit the crib mattress last night!

Here's a brief explanation of the dedication, since it's a concept that's probably unfamiliar to a lot of people. I had no idea what it was until we went to Clark's cousin Josie's dedication at Newark Church of the Nazarene a few years ago. Essentially a dedication entails all of the adult commitments that come with a traditional infant baptism, both from the parents and the church congregation, but actually leaves the act of getting baptized as a choice that the child can make at some point in his life when he understands what it means. Our church (Zionsville Presbyterian) offers baptisms and dedications, and since we wanted to give Clark the ability to choose when to be baptized, we went with a dedication.

Here is a clip:

Most of our small group was able to make it to see Clark's dedication, here is a group shot.

We had a really nice time visiting with everyone that came in to see it. After the church service we had a cookout at our house. I think this was the most people we had ever had at our house at one time! Jason grilled up a lot of chicken, burgers and hot dogs, and all of the food was great! Here are some pictures of Clark's guests.
Nana Jinny and Grandpa Kevin

The Joyner Clan: Tom, Sara, Josie, Tessa, Nana and Papa Joyner and Great Grammy.

Jason, Katie and Clark with Joe, Sara and Elizabeth

Jinny and Kevin came in on Saturday and stayed with us, so we got to visit with them that night. Here is a sweet picture of Clark and his Nana reading a book at bedtime.

What a fun weekend!
